Sacred Companions: My Journey with Oracle Cards and Tarot Decks

Throughout my spiritual journey, I’ve been blessed to discover various oracle and tarot cards that have served as trusted companions during different seasons of healing and growth. Each deck has brought its unique wisdom and guidance, helping me navigate through moments of uncertainty, celebration, and transformation.

These decks aren’t just tools for divination – they’re mirrors reflecting our inner wisdom, catalysts for deep personal insights, and bridges to our intuitive powers. Like old friends, each has played a special role in my evolution, offering exactly what I needed during specific chapters of my life.

I’ve curated this special collection on Bookshop.org, carefully selecting decks that have personally impacted my journey. Whether you’re beginning your spiritual path or deepening your practice, these cards offer unique perspectives and guidance for personal growth.

What makes these oracle cards and tarot decks particularly special is how they’ve adapted to my changing needs. Some have been perfect for daily guidance, others for deep shadow work, and still others for celebrating moments of breakthrough and joy. Each deck has taught me something different about myself and the universe we inhabit.

Let me share with you 15 transformative decks that have deeply influenced my spiritual practice:

1. The Fountain Tarot

A modern, minimalist tarot deck by Jason Gruhl, Andi Todaro, and Jonathan Saiz that explores abstract concepts through geometric art. This deck found me in 2021 during a major career upheaval and transition. When everything felt like it was crumbling, this deck helped me understand the deeper purpose behind it all. The messages revealed themselves gradually throughout that year, providing grounded energy and peace amid the turbulence.

2. Love Who You Are

Created by Angi Sullins and Silas Toball, this deck focuses on self-acceptance and personal empowerment. I bought this deck as a birthday gift to myself in 2023 during a special self-care date day. From the moment I saw the cover, I knew it belonged in my collection. The butterfly imagery and gentle messages about self-love resonated deeply with me, perfectly aligning with my journey toward better self-care.

3. The Starseed Oracle

Rebecca Campbell and Danielle Noel’s cosmic deck helps connect with your galactic origins and higher purpose. I discovered Rebecca’s work during my lunch break of all places in 2018, when a friend pulled an oracle card for me from this deck. I instantly connected with its symbolism and imagery and knew I needed to have it in my own personal collection.

4. The Rose Oracle

Another beautiful creation by Rebecca Campbell with Katie-Louise, using rose symbolism for heart-centered guidance. The imagery in this deck is one of my all-time favorites. My love for roses and their healing medicine made me fall in love with this deck.

5. The Spirit Animal Oracle

Colette Baron Reid’s deck brings animal wisdom into your daily practice. I discovered this deck at a women’s retreat in 2019—it was my first purchase from Colette’s collection. I’ve used it faithfully ever since, and whenever a bird or animal appears in my daily life, I immediately consult this deck to understand its meaning and messages the universe may have for me.

6. Millennial Tarot

Scott Bergman’s contemporary take on traditional tarot speaks to modern spiritual seekers. I received this deck as a birthday gift last year. Though the cover initially seemed gimmicky, it has become a delightful addition to my collection. The deck delivers meaningful messages with a refreshingly honest yet playful approach, bringing more joy to my daily practice.

7. The Doula Deck

A unique creation by Lori Bregman, Ursula Cary, and Ashley Seil Smith, offering nurturing guidance through life transitions. This gentle deck is perfect for mamas and mamas-to-be. I originally bought it for an expecting friend years before having my own little one. The deck is thoughtfully divided into three sections—pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. During my own difficult postpartum period, this deck provided invaluable support. I even shared card readings with my daughter, which became a special bonding experience for us both.

8. Oracle of the Shapeshifters

Lucy Cavendish and Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s mystical deck explores transformation through magical creatures. This deck holds special meaning as my first oracle deck, purchased. It was also the first deck my spiritual reader and teacher at the time used for my personal reading. I can always return to it—a cherished reminder of where my journey as a reader began and how far I’ve come.

9. The Angel Guide Oracle

Kyle Gray and Jennifer Hawkyard bring angelic wisdom into everyday guidance. This deck calls to me whenever I seek guidance from my guides, ancestors, loved ones, and higher self. Each card holds unique wisdom that reveals fresh insights into the angelic realm.

10. Moonology Oracle Cards

Yasmin Boland and Nyx Rowan help you harness lunar energy and astrology for personal growth. This deck is one I regularly return to, particularly for guidance aligned with moon cycles and astrological phases. The two elements blend together perfectly to provide seasonal messages that support the current energetic climate. I like to pull additional oracle cards and tarot cards when I use this particular deck as a means of gaining additional insights into the moon and astrological meanings.

11. Wisdom of the Oracle Divination Cards

Colette Baron-Reid’s deck offers profound insights through symbolic imagery. I own several of Colette’s decks, and she is definitely one of my favorite oracle deck creators. Her work is gentle yet deeply impactful, with words that resonate and bring profound healing.

12. Seasons of the Witch

A powerful series by Juliet Diaz, Lorriane Anderson, Tijana Lukovic, and Giada Rose that connects you with natural cycles. I absolutely adore this collection of decks. I currently own two in the series and plan to collect them all. Each deck draws inspiration from seasonal events like Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Winter Equinox, and more. While these oracle cards are especially powerful during their corresponding seasons, I’ve found them invaluable year-round, using them whenever I feel drawn to their unique energies.

13. Queer Tarot

Ashley Molesso and Chess Needham’s inclusive deck celebrates diversity in spirituality. I purchased this tarot deck in 2022 during a trip to Palm Springs. I immediately fell in love with the artwork and colors. This deck follows many of the same visuals as the Rider Waite Smith deck but offers a more inclusive and diverse representation in its imagery. It brings a lightness to readings while still delivering impactful messages.

14. Star Spinner Tarot

Trungles brings fresh perspective to classic tarot through inclusive, diverse artwork perfect for modern practitioners. This has become one of my favorite decks, consistently finding its way into my rotation—whether I’m doing readings for clients at events or for myself. Its visuals bring a richness that always delivers a powerful message.

15. The Rider Waite Smith Tarot Deck

Last but certainly not least, Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith’s classic deck remains a cornerstone of tarot practice, offering timeless wisdom. If you’re brand new to Tarot and interested in exploring it, I highly encourage you to start with this tarot deck to build your learning and reading foundation. While it may not be the most inclusive deck available, its rich history has set the foundation for all decks that followed.
